I don’t paint what I see. I paint what either I or a loved one has yet to see but soon will or is being revealed to me through the eyes of another as it unfolds in some distant locale. Each painting contains mystical stories inspired by nature, spirit and souls.
My art originates from feeling, which arrives unexpectedly and at any time. Although subtle, the feeling is persistent, distinctive, and irresistible. While its source is unclear, when this tingling appears, I am compelled to translate its gentle vibrations into a vibrantly colored and textured painting by spontaneously yet deliberately applying an array of ceramic, acrylic, silk and glass paints, India Inks, and other media to a horizontal canvas.
The outcome is abstract faces, symbols and shapes, often with profound meaning.
There is no formula about the way I paint, whether the canvas will be covered with one layer or multiple, or just a small part. Many paintings are composed of ten different media types, while another is made of a single one. Some are completed in one hour, while others take days.
As the process is unscripted, I cannot recreate a painting once done, nor is there a desire to do so.
I watch with single-minded focus, as the swirling colors perform their cosmic dance, wondering what truths will be revealed. I may inexplicably intervene using droppers, spatulas, brushes, and my hands to assist in exposing the unfolding patterns. When the feeling stops, my active role does also.
